Why a wombat?
Wombats stash things, dig in and don't mess about. That's the whole business plan.
The short version
We started Wombat Crates in Sydney because moving house here costs a fortune and crate hire prices hadn't really shifted since 2013. Everyone was charging for one week and hoping you'd forget the collection date.
So we bought good 68-litre crates, priced two weeks as standard, made dollies a $25 optional add-on (or included free with 50 crates or more) and started delivering on Sundays, because that's when people actually move. Every crate is pressure-washed and sanitised between hires, so what arrives at your door is clean, dry and ready to pack.
Meet Wal
Wal is a bare-nosed wombat: squat, broad-shouldered and surprisingly cheerful. He turns up on Sunday morning, says nothing, and has the house packed by lunch.

Who runs Wombat Crates
Brad Rutty, owner and driver
Brad runs Wombat Crates. In practice that means he is the one loading the van before six, driving the deliveries, and coming back a fortnight later to collect. Ring the number on this site and it is his phone that rings.
He works the whole stretch from the Harbour Bridge to Palm Beach, seven days a week, which teaches you things a website cannot. That empty crates nest inside each other, so you can carry four up a Mosman half-flight in one trip. That the hard part of a Neutral Bay apartment move is the lift booking, not the packing. That a house above Avalon Beach with twenty steps down to the door wants a different plan to a flat block in Frenchs Forest. That kitchens always, always need more crates than anyone guesses.
