Manly is walk-up country. Three-storey art deco and 1960s blocks along Sydney Road, Pittwater Road, Raglan Street and up the hill to Fairlight and Queenscliff, with a shared entry, a narrow landing and no lift. We deliver nested stacks to the ground-floor entry, carry two or three empty crates at a time up the flights, and leave a dolly for the flat runs. That is a very different job from hauling a flat pack of cardboard up the same stairs.

Parking is the part people underestimate. Around the Corso, East and West Esplanade and the beachfront, almost every kerbside space is metered or two-hour, and in summer it is gone by nine. A booked early-morning window is the difference between a ten-minute drop and the driver circling. If your building has a loading zone or a driveway we can use, tell us.

Up the hill towards Fairlight and Balgowlah the blocks give way to houses on a slope with a run of steps from the street or a garage tucked under the house. We work to the door, not the kerb, and if there are more than about fifteen steps we bring a second person. Salt air and a sudden shower do nothing to a sealed crate with a lid, which is why locals who try them tend not to go back.
