Moving in Freshwater: what to expect

Freshwater sits between Manly's walk-ups and Curl Curl's houses and has a bit of both. Around the village on Lawrence Street and down towards the beach there are older two- and three-storey blocks with no lift, plus duplexes and semis. Up the hill on Harbord Road and Queenscliff Road it is houses on a slope, often with a set of steps from the street or a garage under the house.

We deliver nested stacks to the door rather than the kerb: three or four empty crates carried at a time, dolly left for the flat runs. If there are more than fifteen or so steps we bring a second person rather than leaving a stack at the top.

Beach parking is metered and timed near Freshwater Beach and the village, and it fills fast on a warm weekend, so we lean towards early windows or a driveway. Curl Curl and the streets back from the lagoon are easier: driveways, garages, ten-minute drops. Two-hour windows, seven days, Sundays included.
