What it really costs to hire moving boxes in Sydney
Per crate rates, pack prices, hire periods and the extras that quietly add up. Here is how to compare crate hire quotes without getting stung.

Comparing crate hire quotes in Sydney is harder than it should be, because the headline number rarely covers the same thing twice. One quote is for one week, the next is for two. One includes delivery, the next adds it at the end. Here is what to look at.
The four numbers that matter
- The rate per crate, or the pack price for a set number of crates.
- The hire period. One week versus two is the single biggest difference between quotes.
- Delivery and collection. Ask whether both trips are included and whether weekends cost extra.
- Extras: dollies, extra weeks, labels, cable ties, and fees for collecting from a different address.
What we charge
Our crates are $5 each for a two week hire, with a five crate minimum, so a small job starts at $25. Packs work out cheaper per crate: 25 crates for $109, 50 for $189, 75 for $249 and 100 for $309. Delivery and collection are free from the Harbour Bridge north to Palm Beach, seven days a week, and every price includes two weeks of hire rather than one.
A dolly is a $25 add on, and one is included free with 50 crates or more. Extra weeks are available if your settlement moves, which in Sydney it often does.
How that compares to cardboard
Fifty new heavy duty cartons from a hardware store run about $150 to $250, plus tape, plus markers, plus the trips to buy them, plus the flattening and the tip run afterwards. Fifty crates from us is $189 with two trips included and nothing left in your garage. Second hand cardboard is cheaper again, but you are buying boxes that have already been crushed once.
Where quotes catch people out
Watch for one week hire periods dressed up as a cheaper price, delivery zones that stop short of the Northern Beaches, weekend surcharges, and collection fees when the new place is a different address to the old one. Ask for the total delivered price for the dates you actually need, then compare.
